Once Upon a Time in the North, a prequel to the Golden Compass by Philip Pullman, will be released on April 8, 2008 in the U.S. It features a 24-year-old Lee Scoresby on a tumultuous balloon journey to the North. The book shows how Lee Scoresby struck up an unlikely friendship with everyone’s favorite armoured bear, Iorek Byrnison. Supposedly, the clothbound volume features some cool art by John Lawrence and a removable board game.
Pullman has also mentioned two other possible companion books to the His Dark Materials trilogy: The Book of Dust (now underway according to Wikipedia) and a green book about Will Parry (to contrast the red book about Lyra, aka Lyra’s Oxford).
