There’s been some confusion as of late about the title of book five in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. A week or two ago, a reader sent in a comment saying that Sword of Hades would be the title for book five (Thanks Tylor!). But then, I checked out Rick Riordan’s blog, and he says Sword of Hades will be the title of a 50ish-page short story about Percy that takes place between Battle of the Labyrinth (book 4) and book 5 (and that it will be published only in the UK). However, in this post (published August 8, 2008), he also says that readers may see Sword of Hades published in the U.S. in a different format in the future. Clearly, this seems to hint that book five will indeed be titled Sword of Hades. Then, I visited fantasticfiction.com, and they list Sword of Hades as the title of Percy Jackson book 5 (with a release date in 2009). So, this seems to clinch it. Barring more information, I will officially be looking forward to the release of Percy Jackson and the Sword of Hades in May 2009. And in the meantime, I will be checking out Riordan’s new adventure/mystery, Maze of Bones, which will be out September 9, 2008. It’s the first in a ten-part series by Scholastic called The 39 Clues. Each book is written by a different author. The 39 Clues website looks pretty cool. You can collect cards and try to solve the puzzle by playing the online game! It’s not Percy, but I’m psyched already!
