Book 5 Placeholder Cover
After the recent confusion surrounding the title of book 5 in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, fans finally have a definite answer. Rick Riordan announced on his blog today that the title for book five will be Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Last Olympian. USA Today broke the news concerning the title yesterday, and you can read the complete article here. The book will be released May 5, 2009.
So, now that the title is official, the question is what does this mean for Percy and his fellow demigods? We know that the prophecy surrounding Percy’s sixteenth birthday will be revealed in this book, but what will this mean for the other Olympians?
Okay, I need some time to think about this (and to stop hyperventilating). To Percy fans everywhere, you are now free to go forth and ponder

OK, HYPERVENTILATING ALOT!
i cannot wait! i have a few ideas of what it might mean, 1. it might be about Demeter, shes THE LAST OLYPMIAN whom we havent met. i think shes going to have a big part OR Percy will save the world, gain immortality, and become THE LAST OLYMPIAN. who knows though? anyways, im so glad he realsed it early-i dont think i could’ve waited much longer!

Percy Jackson 5 is about Athena because she is never a major part to play so far like the others from Zeus to Pan. Demeter can fit too but it can be another forgotten last olympain

OMG! Was that really Rick Riordan?!?!?! That is so totally awesome!! I think the Last Olympian is Hesita or Demeter, or Percy will defeat Kronos and gain immortality. I don’t think it’s Athena.

I have this site and the percyjackson.co.uk site bookmarked on my computer cuz omg I NEED news from you for like the last book which is so sad that its the last book cuz you know what? I LOVE THEM i’ve read them 5 times each ALL of them and they never get old and I will savor the last book and do you know how long ive looked just to find a site about this and to know what the last book will be called and released? lets just say.. oh… 5 days.. more or less..! lol! i am totally excited to see these rad books into a movie, though im sure they wont get in all the wonderful details you’ve provided us with! I seriously fainted when I heard the title for this fifth book. I couldn’t stop smiling and laughing for three days straight. LITERALY!!! I can’t wait for this book! So much is going to happen! I am dying to read this book! SO much is left to happen! Like meeting Hestia, Luke’s mother, to see what Hera does about her threat to Annabeth, Percy fighting Krono’s, Percy’s prophecy….There are so many good things that I can’t name them all without susing up 10 whole pages! But I must say that the thing that’s driving me the craziest is… Percy and Annabeth. How will they reveal their feelings?! Okay now I’m getting butterflies out of the thought! Now I have to go calm down, I’m really hyper! Ok bye!!! Counting down the days till May, 5!

Did you always know from the start that you only wanted to make 5 books? Or did you decide after you made the the lightning theif?

I think that percy will be the last olmpian but what will happen between percy and annabeth?! I honestly think that rick will compeletly make them go on a not date and then they fall in love. I have found out on Noveber 13 2009 there will be a lightning theif movie. In the fifth book percy and annabeth will become a cople. Percy will find Ogygia (Calapso) again. He will fight Kronos. I’m not sure if he’ll choose the gods or titans. Nico will be very important. Thalia will probabbly be seen.

Know what i think it’ll be about? The prophecy- either Nico or Percy will be chosen and will destroy all the Olympians- except one(probably Hades or Poseidon.)The last Olympian will then change everything and the chosen one will battle Kronos. Percy will most prob get chosen.

I think that the title ” The Last Olympian” means that there will come one more god to join the olympians. like, they make Percy immortal and he becomes a god(if u can become a god xD?!?! not sure about that) and then there are 13 gods instead of 12. then percy will whop Kronos/Luke’s ass, cause he cant die. xD that would be sooooooo cool!!
but there is just one more thing: how the hell are the gods and percy annabeth etc. gonne be abel to fight kronos and Typhon at the same time ?!?!? i mean, in the end of the 4 book, percy’s father says that Typhon will come straight for New York, and last time they fought Typhon, they could barely win with all the gods fighting him. so how are they gonne be abel to fight kronos and typhon at the same time, i mean, if i were Kronos, i wouldent wait until the gods rest after the battle and then atk, i would atk almost at the same time XD. just thoughts

I think that something bad is going to happen to Thalia, because in one of the books Percy had that vision where him and Thelia are onboard Luke’s ship, and then Thalia opens Kronos’s sarcophagos and then there’s a flash of light.

to Chaos1k, i agree something bas is gonne happen, what else could? i mean, Kronos is rising xD and typhon is probebly gonne atk too. but about the visions percy had when there on board Lukes ship, and when Thalia opens kronos’s sarcophagos and the flash of light. I think thats already happend, but just that percy was the one that opened the sarcophage. there is no point in the “box” anymore, now that kronos is back, exept if the box is some how connected to kronos and the have to destroy the box to kill him.

williwonka, ye i know there are more then 12 gods, but when i say 12 gods, i mean the “major” gods, like artemis, apollo, zeus, poseidon etc etc.. not gods like Janos, the god of choice or whatever he is xD. and btw, most of those minor gods have changed sides and are helping Kronos so…

ok one more thing i think that percy will use the raft calypso gave him to get to camp to find ogygia to get calypso to help in them against the titans in the war and she can finally leave ogygia and maybe and i hope percy isnt the last olympian because then he would have to leave his friends so i think luke will become good because he was possessed and he will become the last olympian or he and thalia will become a couple

maybe ethan nakamura will help in the fight AGAINST cronos because the whole reason he joined is because he wanted 2 fight aginst his mother-nemesis and at the end of the book dionysus tells percy that the minor gods (including nemesis) have joined the titans so maybe he’ll take back his offer to serve cronos, btw RICK RIORDAN RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can’t wait to read the final book. the suspense is killing me. there are so many things i want to know. I actually hope percy doesn’t become immortal. I like stories where the weak ones kick butt!I also want to know why some mortals like rachel and percy’s mom can see everything. I sure hope i find out. Maybe one of their great grandparents was a god. That would be so cool. One thing that’s really fustrating me, is annabeth’s prophecy. Is that last line about percy or luke or neither. Does it even mean someone will die or will they just simply dissapear. I sure hope percy doesn’t die for good. But it would be awesome if he did and then came back to life. I can’t wait to read the sure to be shocking conclusion. I just wish i didn’t have to wait till May.

U no wat i was thinking? since Hera pretty much HATES Percy and Annabeth, I think if Paul and Sally are gonna get married in this book, then Hera’s probably gonna ruin the wedding, since shes the goddess of weddings (she is, rite?). Its just a thought, tho. I also go on bluetrident, and i like that theory Christie posted about Ares reversing the curse on Percy’s sword, cuz if he doesnt, he will fall cuz Percy will fail fighting Kronos. That was just an awesome 1 i think.

Aha interesting conversation everybody is having. For BigFan you theory could work but you never know. Also remember in book 4 when they find The Lost God Pan? then he tells most of the people there Percy , Annabeth etc something about what will happen. Hmm ? got you thinking XD But so dumb that everybody in Olympus treated Nico like shit =\. I think that percy’s mom is a half blood…and here are some reasons why…
Her eyes change color depending on the light
She can see through mist (something that keeps most mortals from seeing monsters, gods, and the rest of the weirdness)
In Book 1, The Lightning Thief, Sally isn’t killed when the Minotaur picks her up by the neck, but is captured and spirited away by Hades in a shower of golden light. Maybe Hades could do that to a mortal, but still…
I think we need something to make Percy even more special, and that would do it
plus, it would make an interesting plot twist. I don’t remember reading any myths about humans who had a god for a grandparent and a parent .

Okay…as for “Who is the last Olympian?”
I have a feeling it might be that Chiron gets a shot at immortality. If Percy were to be the last Olympian, it would defeat the purpose of Annabeth and him being together. It wouldn’t be one of the original sons of Kronos either because each are equally important. I’d say Chiron or another leader figure in the series. If not, then it’d be a lesser god (i.e. Cupid).
Though the author being Rick…I could be off by a long shot.
“Percabeth” is my main focus though hehe
As for the rest of the matters that have been brought up. There are SO many unanswered questions! Its driving me insane!
Is Paul Blofis going to propose to Percy’s mother despite the fact that he is a halfblood?
What is going to happen to Luke?
How is Kronos going to be defeated?
And I could go on and on.
I do know one thing, the title hints the fall of all Olympians…which saddens me greatly.
Another thing would be that the prophecy “has” to be about Percy. Otherwise this wouldn’t be the last book.
My “name”, Chaos is the beginning of Greek Mythology. It is from Chaos that Ouranos and Gaea came to be. (Just in case ya’ll wanted to know)

yeah, I’m 15 years old, and in total love with this series. Mythology has always interested me, and this was my fix. So many questions linger in the air. Will it be Annabeth who has to kill off Kronos in Luke’s body? What will happen to nico since he is not welcome at Camp Half Blood? How is Thalia doing as a Maiden? In the end, I think that Luke and Nico and Percy will fight. (again) Luke will try to bribe Nico with his sister. Nico might be convinced and stab Percy on the back. Thalia will come out of no where, kill Luke and pull Nico out of the trance of thinking his sister will be alive again. Luke and Thalia fight it to the end over Mt. Etna or Tartarus. Luke takes the fall. The story ends.

I have another theory. However, I still have to say it. Percy starts to become more possessed by Kronos’s voice. He realizes he wants the power that Kronos is willing to offer him. Whatever it may be. Percy joins Kronos. He and Luke together slaughter Camp Half-Blood. Poseidon and Zeus become more infuriated than ever. However, the old sea titans protect both Percy and Luke now. He can still breathe underwater and will soon have control of an army of underwater creatures. Luke will control all of the hellhounds in Hades’s underworld because they will make an alliance with Hades to allow him all rights as that of the gods on Olympus. Together, Luke and Percy will strip down Olympus as well as Camp Half-blood. A new order will be formed. Nico will side with Percy due to the fact that he wants to impress his dad.

I also think that in the end all the major characters are going to fight it out. Luke and his army will face some of the gods along with camp half blood the satyrs and the cyclopes while they are fighting someone will have released atlas and Typhon and Kronos and all the other titans and they will fight Thalia and the hunters,zeus,hades,poseidon any gods who can help,percy,tyson,annabeth,grover,nico,and any other big three children who might be revealed.Bianca might come back and ms oleary will have a good part Briares will destroy the evil army hopefully and then someone will get kronos’s scythe and kill the titans

I know what I said previously was a bit depressing, but here is a happier ending. Well, the type that Aphordite would want anyways. Annabeth and Percy set on a quest together because Percy was allowed only one partner. Annabeth and Percy realize that they realize like each other as they’re on their quest, they take it too far. (gasp) At the end of the book, Percy finds out that his dad and the other gods want to sacrifice him and all of the other half-bloods as a surrender because the gods think that they can’t fight off the Titans. Percy becomes infuriated with his father and the rest of the gods. He betrays them and swears alleigance to Kronos. Kronos promises Percy that he will become the most powerful and famous half-blood of all time. Percy takes the bait. With Kronos, he plans an assualt on Olympus. Before the assualt, he comes to camp half-blood to check on Annabeth and the baby.
This sounds familiar, doesn’t it. Well, that’s because this is the exact trick that Anakin Skywalker pulled in Star Wars. That would be the “tragic” love story that Aphordite would’ve wanted. (from Book 3, when Percy was in Ares’s white limo)

This series is pretty much awesome. I’ve read some pretty good series in my life, and this is one of the best ones. I know that Annabeth and Percy are going to hook up in the middle or end of the book on the beach that Percy is always at when he needs to get a clear mind. It’s another fairy tale thing. Even star wars had a happy ending like that and I really like star wars. They will of course have children. However, I don’t know if a half-blood and half-blood can mix. If anybody does know, do tell.

i got a theory on who might me the last olympian. everybody keeps talking about percy will get immortal, or that maybe Hera’s siste will come, think its Demeter, not sure xD. but what about the god that disapeared… the Wild God Pan! i mean, since his gone, what if there will be a new wild god. who better then GROVER!!!!!!!!! i mean, in the Battle of the Labarinth, grover used the wild gods power to make the enemy monsters panic. so what if the gods make him the new immortal Wild God!!
just a theory but i still kind of liked it xD.. a nother one is that, maybe a new god will come, the goddes Nike. she is the goddes of victory! so i think it would help to have her on the olympians side xD:D

I know they won’t have children at 16, but Mr. Riordan mentioned an epilogue at the end of the book. Maybe that’s what will happen. Also, I mentioned that Percy will end up with Calypso in entry 251. Personally, I do hope that Percy ends up on Calypso. Him leaving Oygia was the saddest part of book 4.

to T-muffin. the last book is named ” The Last Olympian”, and when i said that grover may become the Wild God that would make him an olympian.(i think.
i thought that if your a god, you are an olympian :S xD. or is it only the ones that have a place on Mnt. Olympia that is an olympian??. but if it is only the 12 gods (the ones that argued about if they should vaporize percy or not in the 4 book) what would happen if they made Grover immortal, AND gave him a place on Olympia..??..
then he would be the last olympian.
but i just came up with a nother theory!xD
the last olympian may also be Hades!
he is one of the Big Three. BUT, he doesent have a place on Olympia. what if Hades doesent want to help the gods in the upcoming war against the Titans, what if he hates the gods so much, that he will side with the Titans. so the gods make him an offer. they tell him that if he helps them, he will be welcome on Mnt. Olympia. that would make Hades, The Last Olympian!! xD even though Hades tried to kill percy in the first book, i still think his really cool!!xD if u forget the part about where he tried to kill percy, he was the most uncle like god we have ever seen(in the first book though), I mean, if u think about how Zeus is acting,who btw is a freaking moron!xD Hades is a pretty nice guy..
the only ones that i think were nicer then him, was Hermes,Apollo,ofc his father, Poseidon, maybe Hephastous(not sure if i spelled it right xD)Artemis wasent that bad, and Aphrodite, who, i think, only likes percy because she thinks he may be a good love story to tell in the future. if you think about what the other gods have done who have met percy,they are pretty nice, i mean, Athena said that if it was up to here, she would vaporize percy in a second!

Annabeth may die because in the first book Percy asks the orcle “What is my destiny?” which means that the prophecy could go on. The last line of the prophecy was In the end, you will fail to save what matters most and it really doesn’t come true. Percy obviously loves Annabeth and she is what matters most to him, so she may die.

Here are the best books I’ve ready lately:
Unwind by Neal Schusterman (It’s about a future society where parents can decide to sell their kids for parts)
Little Brother by Cory Doctorow (It’s about three kids who use technology to fight the system)
The 39 Clues by Rick Riordan (sound familiar???) (It’s about two kids who go on a trek around the world to find the clues to their family secret)
Repossessed by A.M. Jenkins (It’s about a demon who comes to earth and possesses a kids body just before he dies)
I’ve also read a lot of lame books lately. If you haven’t read Garth Nix’s Keys to the Kingdom series, I would give that a try, too. And, of course, I love Gregor the Overlander.

about the teory that percy will take nicos sword and take krono’s soul, im sorry to say that its busted. Kronos is a Titan. wich means his immortal, wich means, he doesent have a soul(i think) just like the monsters, they dont have souls. when they get killed they can get back again, so theyr immortal too. so if percy stabs kronos, its more likely that percy will take Lukes soul. but here’s the thing! that may be the way to beat kronos. kronos is inside luke, as if he’s possesed him in some way. but Luke is still there, the prof was in the fourth book, when Rachel threw that brush on Luke/Kronos. so what if the only way to beat kronos, is to get rid of Luke. but the only flaw i can find in my theory is, can a human being live without a soul?? because if it can, my theory is busted xD.
and i have some recemendations to some good books: the Eragon series is incredible! its an awesome serie (but percy jackson series still rule
!!), The Keys to The Kingdom is a nice serie too. you should give it a try =).
i know some 1 has already said this, but if percys mom and that blofus guy get married, i think Hera is gonne screw it up xD because percy diss respected her, or whatever it was xD. but maybe Hera’s sister will come, think its Demeter

For percabeth that theory does work, the one you posted a while ago.( Was just catching up on the posts) but also it doesnt because, the last line “In the end, you will fail to save what matters most” Does come true because he does fail to save his mother. But I also see the flaw in what I said so im still uncertain.
Also Percy will be with Annabeth, because this quote comes from Rick’s UK Website

For TYPHOEUS (Typhon): The monster will Awake which is pretty obvious, it will attack Olympus, Characters that will help : Thaila will return, Braires will come back or assist in some way. My theory.
For Percy: He will live and it will be a happy ending, How I know ? LOL well Google XD I found a couple stuff. Its cuz rick doesnt want to kill off Percy so ya.

about that whole percy + annabeth thing if u look on page 154 in the titans curse Thalia says she didnt join the hunters b cuz she would have 2 leave luke and then on that same page she tells percy as hes leaving that annabeth wanted 2 join 2 BUT she didnt hmmm….also i think aphrodites scarf from first book will take some proof of love between percy + annabeth (look on page 80 of titans curse)

I hope there’s a new character addition to the series. I know it might be too late, but I hope that Percy discovers that he has a brother or that there is another son or daughter of Zeus. The person should be around 20 and act as Percy’s godfather or caretaker. In addition, this book should be nice and thick as it is the last. Possibly 400 or 500 pages so I can start reading at 10:00 and finish at 3:00 or 2:00 in the morning.

The reason for Calypso is that she actually admitted her for feelings for Percy and told the truth while Annabeth didn’t even admit the entire prophecy until the end of book 4. Calypso offered him salvation on her island and didn’t cry too much about him going away. She’s mature enough to deal with problems while annabeth cracks sometimes. Did I mention that she offered him salvation? Plus, she was mentioned in Pirates of the Caribbean: At the World’s End as the woman who Davy Jones had cut out his heart for and had been driven insane by her beauty.

while waiting for the next percy jackson book,a good series to read is the fire within series by Chris d’lacey(best books ever ftw)the first 1,fire within is not as good at the others and slow at points,but the second 1 (icefire) gets better than the fire within and the third (firestar) is very great and loved it ive read it like 11 times (im in fifth grade and read faster than a 8th grader)and the last 1 (the fire enternal is just a good as firestar

I haven’t even guessed who it might be yet, i think it could possibly be grover, but then again the last olympian could mean anything and it could range from characters such as luke-to grover-to percy, nobody knows for sure, but as a great author once said “you might as well ask a poet to explain his poem or an artist to explain his art, it defeats the purpose the truth is only found through the search” basically i havent judged anyone on who it might or might not be

hey mr d again or as nico wud call me the wine dude so how about dis the only thing im certain on is dat annabeth and percy ar going 2 get it on hubba hubba but as we know kronos is not fully settled into lukes body so there must be a time limit on how long they have to sever kronoses grip on luke but because of annabeths feelings for luke they must do this without killing luke now my guess is they will go to mount otyrus where i think kronos will still be and and rachel will use her mad brush throwing skills and hit kronos in the eye and while he is dased annabeth will try and get through to luke with a kiss which will drive percy crazy and luke breaks kronoses grip on him and everyone except for blofis will live happily after

My previous hypothesis had some errors. When I referred to Chiron possibly “getting a shot at immortality” I meant as a god.
I have also come to another prediction, which has been stated before if I do recall. Grover could become a god and devote himself to saving the wild with his “godly” powers.
Or possibly Calypso. If the Olympians fall in the final battle. Calypso would be freed of her curse. Making it liable that she could take a throne on Olympus.
As for Luke…I have a feeling that Annabeth and Percy will set off to free him from Kronos’s ’soul’ (for lack of a better word/description). But in the process of freeing him, Luke dies. It’d be a good way to get to Annabeth and keep up with the essential plot of the story. I don’t think there will be any 180 degree twists in the plot this late.
I’m just throwing out more suggestions in order to pass the time until the book is released.

Well in my opinion the whole annabeth killing luke/kronos thing, i dont think thats likely, i mean it has to be percy to do it “a child of the big three will make a choice to save or destroy olympus” most likely means that that child will also have to kill kronos in order to do it, and to astro and vady, you guys just chill out!! People, “the last olympian”, the title may refer to the first olympians. Ouarnous or Gaia. Ouranous can be the one to battle Cronous to the death because he is his father. He might even ask for forgiveness for abandoning and hating his children when they were born. Who knows? I hope that the last olympian is Ouranos.

I don’t mean to be personal, but I hope that Percy has an energy force of powerful creature living inside him. Similar to Naruto’s nine-tailed fox, but not evil.
